Ofcom has given the go-ahead for the BBC to launch an HD
digital TV channel in its market impact assessment for the BBC Trust,
despite the impact it could have on commercial rivals.
The BBC plans for the channel to be available on digital satellite,
cable, terrestrial and the internet and to broadcast nine hours
a day once established. It is currently running a trial HD channel
on Sky's satellite platform and Virgin Media that has featured such
programmes as 'Planet Earth', 'Silent Witness', 'Hotel Babylon'
and 'Heroes'. The regulator concluded that the proposed service
was unlikely to have significant adverse effects on the market.

Bids for Emap must be in by early October, according to an
information memorandum distributed earlier this month. Only cash
offers for the radio, magazine and B2B group are being considered. The
tight turnaround does not reflect fears that the global credit crunch
will put off private equity groups. However, it expects fewer bids
on the table than the 30 expressions of interest shown when the
break-up was announced this summer. Source: Media Week

The National Readership Survey is testing a survey that,
for the first time will analyse the reader relationship between
a website and its parent newspaper. More than 70 sites are being
monitored in the experiment and, if it proves succesful, the first
results could be available as early as January. Like the NRS, the
data collocted will give the publishers an insight in to age and
