Mike is the founding partner of Total Media, which opened its doors on Aprils Fools Day 1982 in a small rented office in Charing Cross. “When we started, we had no clients, no staff and no income. That certainly focussed our attention on getting Total Media off the ground!” Mike had learned his trade in the then “Academies” of the media industry: Lintas (now Initiative Media) and Davidson Pearce, Berry and Spottiswoode. At the age of 34, he decided to break out and set up his own media agency. He is now quite a bit older than 34, but still revels in the cut and thrust of running a media business. “The media world has changed beyond recognition, and is now far more diverse than it was when we started, but that diversity has created a wealth of opportunities for advertisers that did not exist in those days. It’s a very exciting industry to be in right now. Our job is to guide our clients through the maze of communication opportunities, and help them to identify the mix that is going to have a real impact on their business.” Mike has a wife called Geraldine, two children (Georgie and Cameron) and lives in Chiswick, West London. He plays golf with a handicap of 16, and is a lifelong Spurs supporter. His prediction is that, next year, Spurs will be fourth in the Premiership….but, then again, he’s been saying that for years! |
